Osaka Sights on Rainy Days

It was raining both Wednesday and Thursday in Osaka, but we still got to walk around the city a bit. The "things to do" within basically a day and a half (cut down to probably a half day when you factor in Simba) are much more centralized in Osaka than Tokyo so that made things easier. In the rain, we went to Dotonbori Street, America Mura (town), and the underground shops in Nambu like Nam Nam. We tried to get some 3D latte art, but the bar was closed between lunch and dinner when we got there on the first afternoon we were in Osaka and based on the guy's blog, he might be in Hong Kong now anyways. Hopefully we catch him somewhere else in the world.

Osaka has a grittier feel than Tokyo. Parts of Tokyo still feel that way and Carlos says more of Tokyo, like Roppongi, used to be that way. It's nice to be in a city (at least parts of it) that doesn't seem totally overrun yet by mass development and uniformity. The people seem similarly more real and less reserved. In Tokyo, people have stopped us to say Simba is kawaii. But in Osaka on the first day, two different people straight up pinched Simba's cheeks as they said, "kawaiiiiiiii!!!!!!"

We ate okinomiyaki at Chibo, an Osaka chain, but agreed that the okinomiyaki we've tried in the past in Hiroshima is better. The best thing we ate was pudding at Mattari Pudding on a street leading from Namba station to Dotonbori Street (the Japanese name of the pudding place is on the lid of the picture with the yellow ducks in the previous post...ate the pudding too fast to take an actual picture!).
